The Patriot Act appears rather similar to the Fugitive Slave Act. The Fugitive slave Act was a moral and legal disaster which only delayed the inevitable.

Ah, right, let me qualify my statement - obscure if you didn't grow up in the US a generation or more ago.

Since that's also around the time that Dubya and Cheney grew up in Amerika, it's the only perspective that counts right now.
