just wondering...
just wondering...
I don't think it would matter if he was, as far as I know he hasn't even stopped back in. I think he was just as pissed off as everyone else.
I, for one, am kinda dissapointed in the fact that he didn't stick around and post in purgatory... just long enough to maybe call me a stupid fuck one last time. seems I've looked at Little Girl from both sides now, but still somehow.. I really don't know Little Girl at all
Maybe he actually likes this community (been here for,uh - ever) and quite possible is slightly hurt by the sudden banishment. Maybe getting booted with 30% of the members wanting him permanently gone made him realize how terribly cruel and ironic that action was. Maybe he figured it was a good time to stop jerking himself off at his baited responses. Google his ass up and find him if you love him so god damn much.
I reread the whole of the bombing post and I don't get it - I mean why he was banned or whatever. I copied all of his comments and except for people taking exception for no reason I could see he wasn't being an "asshole".
All the posts in that thread are below. He starts by saying how glad he is that all 12s people are OK and a little sarcastic comment but I see the point and understand what he is saying.
He didn't even call anyone a name until he was called one.
Reminds me of when I was being taken to task for starting too many Libertarian threads - all four of them - as if thread titles took up too much valuable bytes and as if it was unheard of to post redundant threads when meanwhile others would start 40 parody threads a day.
The story then became that I wasn't participating in them - as if I have ever not participated in threads I start.
Anyway, the way I saw it was that LG was sympathetic and caring but got his back up a little on about page 7, and that most were ignoring the comments and the ones taking offense were pretty much the ones who have nothing to take offense about who weren't really involved. He didn't start it and wasn't really out of line as near as I could tell.
I don't see the reason for the "banning" or "suspension" or whatever. Looked more to me like some people didn't really know how to react and so attacked the nearest "kick-boy" who was of coarse LG. His comments below. The comments made to him to provoke those comments I thought were worse than LGs but I guess mob (or is is mod) mentality prevailed.
-gland noone here was hurt, you prolly should have a big "free abu hamza al masri" protest to try and smooth things over tho.
-death toll up to 40 now. that's not much better than an old ira bombing
-oh lighten up. we know muslims love london and nothing really bad is going to happen. if there were a few thousand dead we'd all give respect, but everyone here answered roll call, and this was obviously nothing more than a slap on the wrist to let you know how sad allah is you aren't on his side yet. ya gotta joke a bit about these things.
-but it does bring attention to the plight of muslims nations.
-oh, i rarely do that myself. i know it's really western civilization vs islam.
-it's really a clever way to fight. we could wipe them out if we were willing to kill millions. but they are quite good at avoiding the intolerance level.
-maybe islam will win and this will actually be a glorious moment in history
-thank allah! he don't like collateral damage!
-whatever the case, at least it's calming down now. the weekend is near, let's just try to forget this thing even happened
-i don't think it really matters who did it. prolly a one time deal. let's wait and see how italy and denmark fair before getting too upset. this could just be a big prank
-really, that seems to be the attitude of several uk posters in this thread.
-well, i am american so that's totaly understandable coming from a british prick like you.
-you suppose you deserve better? how very prickish.anywho, all's well that ends well. britian can stand firm against such weak cowards. for as long as it takes i'm sure. while perhaps not popular with all brits, the cause is worthy to most.
To re-iterate,
While it's true that he has the capacity to be helpful and extremely funny, he also has the capacity to troll with great skill and bring out the worst qualities in a lot of people.
It's not just one thread, and it's an increasing level of open hostility that really isn't needed or appreciated. He was spoken to by several people but didn't want to play nice. Like any little girl that is acting out, a time-out is needed.
Of course, like any little girl, if the time-out doesn't work we'll just have to kill it with a hammer and wear its skin around the house.
Where I think it'd be better to be pro-active when dealing with things of serious nature and start an appropriately titled thread. Like -
UK 12s Roll Call and Bombing Sympathy Messages
- but when it is a discussion about the London bombing in general you have to expect that there will be a good 5 threads within the thread - if you can't pick them out and separate them then you should start appropriately titled threads.
Then, keep the politics, etc out of the sympathy thread and I'm sure LG wouldn't "lowjack" it.
LG stole some wire.
Ari, you said -
t's not just one thread, and it's an increasing level of open hostility that really isn't needed or appreciated. He was spoken to by several people but didn't want to play nice. Like any little girl that is acting out, a time-out is needed.

Not to second guess you, mapp, but 12stone isn't a democracy or a legal system, so your analogy isn't appropriate. In the past the moderators & stinky have contacted people by pm or email when they are getting out of hand, cautioning them when necessary to straighten up & fly right, etc. All of us get pm's and email complaining about forum members behaving poorly, and we do try to address the issue privately as much as possible. Sending a member to purgatory is not something any of us take lightly.
In the past, LG has been good about this, but in this particular instance, repeated warnings were not only ignored but openly defied. I won't share our private correspondance, but rest assured that this was not a random act of power abuse.
Certainly purgatorizing certain trolls in the past has proven largely effective in calming down the forum in tense moments. That LG is also a respected and amusing forum member is unfortunate, and I will miss him if he is gone for good. I, for one, have often vigorously defended his behaviour in the past on this forum and others. That said, there are lines that need to be drawn to keep this place from imploding on itself, and sometimes people's purpose in life is to serve as an example to others.
*steals more wire*

I don't think I'd be around here either

I like to defend unpopular "things". I defended Shadrach, Todd Bertuzzi, Libertarians, MrLen and now LG.
I like to think I'm at least consistant.
LG is owed an invitation back and an apology I figure.
does anyone else not give a fuck and wants to discuss donkey punches and hot karl's??????

I'll just reiterate what ari said- LG wasn't banned for his replies in the bombing thread, he was sent to purgatory for the pattern of increasingly malicious behaviour. Both ari and I did the PM-go-round with him, etc...
I too have always defended LG as I have always believed that he was a vital part of the community. It's just that things were steadily getting out of hand and the decision was made to stop it when weighed against what was the greater good of the community. I find it almost unbelievable that we're being portrayed as heavy handed moderators over this considering the way that we have always run twelvestone.
And Mapp, this place isn't preschool. Every time there's an event of note I'm not going to go around making sure that threads are properly titled so people know when to be nice to one another. I'm not a fucking nanny.
