Yah... I was unable to run it on my old compy... so had been a denizen of Gaia for a while..
May try and lose myself online here too once Compy2 gets here (whatever it turns out to be).

It's like an MMORPG, without any of the fun of the Sims.
I have enough issues with my firstlife. I don't need another one draining my sanity.

2L at work.
My screen name is still AM Radio for whomever wants to ping me. I;ve been in there more than here. Mostly learning the LSL language than playing.
more press likely to follow.

I'm in two minds about 2L. I technical mentor a dev lab that workshops cross media projects from around the country. Lately there has been so much focus on 2L as a 'community' component. It's funny watching people (in the same room) try and interact with any meaningful success. Even though they have 1m+ members and are turning over a shit load of dough I still think it's in it's infancy stage and has a long way to go before it hits a wider consumer or acadmic market.
As an aside, one of the teams at a previous Lab is working on a real world mobile based gaming system that allows you to send sms messages to people in the real world and in 2L and from 2L to real world. YOu can also achieve game gaols. collect tokens etc in either real wrold or 2L or both. v.cool.

I just heard about these guys, who are offering guided tours of 2L, WOW, etc.
Arsis 2006.11.15, 01:00AM —
there's all sorts of crazy revenue streams spawning from 2L and all things around it. I read about 1 guy that mad a bunch of genital models (excite attachments). Took him about 2-3 months to model and has since sold over 25,000 at $10usd a pop. MC, I'm sure you'd be able to make some dosh as a 2L modeler.
mclarkson 2006.11.15, 02:32AM —
I may have to look into that. I wonder what software/formats they use.

I barely have enough time for my first life. Lucky persist who can do it at (for) work.

2L has it's own modelling tool that is based on primatives and simply hollow, cut, intersect style modelling. You model directly in the 2L world. I do not know of any tools for porting from something like Max or C4D but I do know a couple of guys that model in those apps to develop the form then remodel in 2L. IMO the good money to be made is in the niche areas of excite objects/points, character mods, costumes and buildings.

Good example of complex object modelling:

oh BTW - I don't know about that actual guitar but you can add script to objects... so technically you could add touch points along the frets and strings (and with a bunch of audio assets) may the guitar playable.

I read an article about one women who created the same strip club she runs as a business in SL. I forget the amounts, but she is making money by the truckload for virtual lap dances.

So I caved and tried this out last night.
I still don't know what to think. A lot of the areas seem extremely disorganized. I was in ... Luna... somewhere(?) and spent a few minutes walking around, when I came upon a couple of people having a fight with guns that looked like giant penises. Ok...
So then I started flying around for a while. I bumped into a large invisible wall, because apparently I tried to fly into someone's "private" space (if I had a nickel...).
Then I teleported somewhere else and started walking around, checking out some of the shops and such. 200L for a nonexistant model of women's shoes. 75L for a shirt model that had "Bad Boy" printed on it.
Am I missing something? Or is 2L basically a place where you can zoom around, spending real money to buy virtual clothes?

And fighting with giant penises. Don't forget the giant penises.

Well among other things it has, there was a streaming concert last night, where a DJ spun in realtime
Good music too.
I imagine that there are community areas (ie. we could construct a 12S island) - there are certainly already company/fan/area of interest locations where with a password, or just some luck you can effectively have a 3D chatroom, conference, meeting, etc.
