But how do I add a site to a search engine.

Lets say you wanna get onto Google. First create a sitemap of the site you want indexed, there are many xml creators on the web just do a search eg: "google xml sitemap creator". Then go to Googles webmaster tools and follow the instructions to get your site indexed. They'll ask you to upload your sitemap to your URL once you have done this wait a few days for Googles "Spider" to index your site and viola your searchable! Once that is up then go back to Googles webmaster tools and verify your site, this will enable you to check out some stats on how Google is indexing your site.
