Safari - most pages render just fine (assuming the albums page is meant to be on the left.

But on the home page, the contact and about links are hidden by the photos bar. They appear on the other pages just fine.

Nice site mang.

Much appreciated! I'll look into the overlap issue...

universum works too. Gaul is divided into three pieces? How very Ceasar of you.

The titles are coming over the fold.

FF 2.0.0.6, WinXP Pro x64, 1920x1200

Possibly a font setting on my system?

Looks like - in ff I have to go up two text sizes from default to achieve that.

baron ruhstoff

Yeah, accessibility in terms of font size isn't a priority - I'm going for pure aesthetics at this point. Once everything else is squared away I'll add an option for a more liquid layout.

mclarkson

I had to bump the size up a bit when I went to 1920x1200, cuz my eyes is old.

Noted. Thanks, all! Much appreciated.

What do you think design-wise? Most of the feedback I've gotten so far says that the homepage is a bit cluttered.

arigato

I really like it, personally - best use of the notebook/journal metaphor i've seen in a long time.
It's a bit cramped, but not busy.

Knevel

nice concept =]

some issues in IE6 on XP

see how the about and contact links are half clipped?

again, top menu is clipped, and extreme photo position =/

everything else looks pretty much the same as yours =]

I think the home page comments about it looking cluttered, could stem from the pen
crossing over the page - mebe try it diagonally across the top left corner, and also, the
random browser images have no connection with anything

one other thought, shouldn't the page numbers change with each section?

mclarkson

I like it really well. It's good looking, and really pulls off the journal metaphor nicely.

// edit: Apparently old jag is getting the same thing.

Interesting. I can't reproduce it.

extreme photo position

Fixed. It was caused by last night's addition of a hidden list for the lightbox nav with margin-left: -9999px and height: 0px. Worked fine in FF, but had to add display:none for IE.

As for changing the page numbers... probably. smile

Interesting points about the pencil and the Cramps. My intention with the pencil was to break up what is really a very plain layout. Now that you point it out, I can see how it creates a feeling of reduced size on the right side, even though that side carries less weight. Hmm.

I wish the pictures on the left side of home were clickable to take me to that journal entry cause I'm really wondering if you did a flyer for a Duchamp exhibit or why you have a photo of his work on your home but have no idea where in the journal it is. I tried using your search to look for Duchamp and returned 0 results.

baron ruhstoff

Duchamp

It was just a personal invite for a weekend of debauchery and shaved legs. spin I see what you're saying, though - the images do tease a bit. I'll think on it.

As for the browser shots, I'll be adding a portfolio section once I've finished the cms. They should make more sense then.

Speaking of finding images... The plan is to expand the search engine to include image files, albums, audio files, and playlists. Hopefully then a search for Duchamp will return that image (assuming, of course, that I remember to include "Duchamp" in the description).

Thanks again, all! It's been a big help.

baron ruhstoff

Think I may have fixed the clipped top nav. Hard to tell, though, since I can't reproduce it on my own IE6/XP (though I did see it on a third machine).

baron ruhstoff

Haven't yet implemented search for images or music, but I have managed to tweak things a bit in terms of nav and individual page styles: Narcissus

Thoughts?

tenPlus

it's coming along nicely
the top nav, those bits that slide out are a bit hard to work out what the links are for them. Above the LH page is ok but the RH is harder. Perhaps have the relevant text appear on the top edge of the page below the piece of paper sliding link?

baron ruhstoff

Anyone have trouble with the new nav on Safari OSX? Apparently it's kind of sticky...

silentsketch

the "photos" hit area seems to span over half of the "work" image.
