Why do RGB images look desaturated in Photoshop CS?

CaseyWhitcher Why do RGB images look desaturated in Photoshop CS?

I've been struggling with this for a long time.

I've tried messing with my color settings and I can't seem to get it to work.

Any image I look at / edit in Photoshop, lets say a screen capture of a website. The images look muted, and less saturated. when I go to save for web, they look fine in both windows.

The actual image that gets published to the web looks fine, but when I'm in photoshop I can't see what I'm really working with?

Here is a shot of a screen capture in photoshop, with an explorer window of the same image butted up against each other, you can see the photoshop version is much duller.

It looks like photoshop is displaying it in CMYK, but the image mode is set to RGB.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Are you viewing your images in Proof Colors? (veiw > proof colors) and if so, what is that set to? for example macintosh RGB is less vibrant that default or windows RGB.

That was it. I was viewing CMYK, even though the image was RGB, I thought it looked like it was in CMYK.

THANKS!
