so, as im sure you guys do not know, im in the process of starting up a design company with a friend/coworker of mine since we are both extremely unhappy where we are, and i've been coming up with some logo designs. I'd love your feedback on them.

for some reason, the first one seems strongest to me
that's a first reaction, opinion, without any design-speak to back it up
the next two are classy and professional enough, if there is a reason you chose to go there... but personally, I would probably jump to the last one as my second choice—but then again, it does not have 'studios' attached and I can't picture it working as well with the addition [without playing aroud with a page of variations]
first one is very strong, looks sharp
silentsketch 2008.02.07, 04:22AM —
thanks Walt! only issue is the first and 4th ones are the ones we're trying to decide between, ahahaha
here another version of the 4th one with some style added
mclarkson 2008.02.07, 04:59AM —
I like the first one *but* ... the differently-sized 4 bothers me. I say match it to the text.
Walt 2008.02.07, 05:01AM —
the stylization of the logo is fine,
but I tried to look beyond it in the first one, and still thought it was strongest
from personal experience, once the logo is selected, someone will want the thing embroidered or put through some other challenge...
I'll come back and give them some thought with a fresh set of eyes in the morning
Napalm 2008.02.07, 07:00AM —
I'm leaning towards the 1st and 4th, with #4 just edging it out. The only thing I would perhaps change on #1 is the slant of the 4. I would try and match it to the Y.
Throw out all bad experiences you've had with clients ever. You will be your worst client bar none. We took 6 months to finalise our logo, and murder was a real possibility at times.
If you and your partner have trouble resolving it, you should seriously consider outsourcing it to someone independent.

I love the 4th, but the "4" doesn't fit for me - I'd lose the serif.
The other 3 look too corporate, and the first has a very dated 90's SF TV show feel about it.
Good luck with the new venture!
silentsketch 2008.02.07, 03:00PM —
thanks for the feedback guys! i agree with you ari, the first 3 look too corporate, and i'd like to portray a more "cool" and trendy type company so we can get those types of clients. I also agree with the 4 being a little off, i'll try and change it up tonight when i get home and post a revised.
i think the "corporate/professional" comments are what i needed to hear, i dont want the logo to be too corporate

You say that like it's a bad thing.

I like #4 too. I'd like to see it with the 4 integrated better though. Maybe try it with the loop on the "y" cutting through the 4 and lose the serifs. Make the 4 a sort of flourish/signature type marque.
Why eighty4? Is there a special significance? Some insight on the significance of the brand will help with the critique.
birdless 2008.03.06, 04:04PM —
Is it 84 or 80 to the fourth power? Like everyone else, I like 1 and 4, with 1 slightly edging out 4. I agree with Napalm about the slant of the 4.
possak 2008.03.06, 07:54PM —
i agree with birdless. i'd try mucking with the size of the 4 and try out some variants.
rogue_designer 2008.03.06, 08:01PM —
I like the last version - and thought somebody mentioned (or not) but what about making the swash from the "y" work into the "4"
Some good options there - you'll sort it.
