Busy on a logo and site for a chef/food critic/ food journalist.
Here's the logo's
and a variation

I like the following one.... but the proportion between the image and font isn't quite right yet. Shrinking the image changes the pen & fork to knife & fork somehow
Web designs:
Option1:
Option2:
Any comments or suggestions?

I like the second interface design. It is more creative as the first seems more technical. Culinary persons view their work as art too so the second definitely captures it better for me.
What is the black and orange logo? I like it best but it seems out of place with the direction the others were going. I think you should run with that one because it's a little more unique and less "literal."
The problem though is neither of those work well together. That logo has to change to fit the design or vice-versa.

Napalm,
I like the variation of the first logo (#2) paired with web design #1. I think it provides a crisp, clear image and feel.
Also, I like the orange and black one and agree with Storm's insight, however, it looks to me like a logo for an actual restaurant rather than for a chef/food critic...

me too... as a solution, I would check to see how it looks reversed out and perhaps try adding a line of text or even the pen... I deal with a couple hundred manufacturer's logos for our catalogues—it seems to be a growing trend for great distinct logos to be adding tag lines, particularly big name brands like panasonic adding taglines for specific divisions
funny, here's mine [I claim nothing with reagard to the site design]:
northernvideosystems.com/manufact.aspx
and I just discovered a site that ripped my old gifs:
techcctv.com/search.html

should there be an apostrophe in there somewhere? Or are there more than one Ralph?

Thanks for all the feedback. Here's a black & white version of the orange, and something new

I really do like the orange and black one in both variations. Don't ask me why as I'm not a graphic designer. It just seems to stand out for me. I think you might have to design a website round it though.

I like the orange and black one too, although it doesn't say foodie to me it is a good strong image, wonder if you couldn't add some fork tines the the vertical stroke of the r to make the suggestion of a fork? and maybe the end stroke of the R (top left) into your pen?

I like the very first logo and the second website. I'm not crazy about the orange and black one in this case, as many people have already said, it does look more like a restaurant logo than a critic's logo (unless that is the whole point). In fact "Ralph's" itself sounds like a restaurant, if it were me, I would try to convince him to change it to his full name or simply "Ralph"
If he thinks it should be "Ralph's" it should have (as mc said) an apostrophe in it, no?
