RO has been cycling about 2 weeks, and judging by the testing done last night I'm almost at the end! I picked the starter fishies up on the way home from work, walked in the front door and was hit by a HEAT WAAAAAAAAAVE!!!!!

The Coralife w hallide changed the temperature of the aquarium from 80 to 92, and made the entire fucking condo a FURNACE OF DEATH!!!!!!!!!111 So I put them in the 10 gal for now ....

RYAN INSTALLED A CPU FAN AND IT APPEARS TO HAVE DROPPED THE TEMP BY 10 DEGREES AGAIN.

I just realized it's 8:00 ... that means I sat in front of the tank staring at the hermit crabs for THREE HOURS without knowing it.

some of them are rambunctious; one stole a shell too big for himself and he's regretting it now. one has declared himself King, going around poking inside every other crab before moving along. does this ever get old?!

Whats 92 in real temperature? If your tank ever hits 30C when there's fish in it you're in the shit. Oh I just converted it, 33C? LOL!

So you've got it stable at 27C you say? Thats a tad too high but mine hits that too. Just don't ever let it go up to 29C and beyond.

Problem is that you have a small volume of water with a 250 Watt halide over it, so that's going to heat up rapidly. The 250 Watt may be overkill unless you chill the tank correctly. It's like you've stuck a V10 in a Fiat 500.

Stick a strip of these on and see how the temp goes:



You'll have to keep on top of evaporation as you're going to lose at least a litre a day. I lose 2 litres.

No, hermits never get boring. As soon as I drop food in they appear from every crevice and start trying to jump upwards with their pincers open, even though the foods 20 inches above them. They rock.

Do 6 and 4, and get them some spare shells to jump in. There's nothing like seeing a naked Hermit crab jumping between shells and trying them on.

yes, they were naked in the bag on the way home. little heemit keeb buns!!! I'm getting more shells today because one of them bit off way more than he could chew; he's been laboriously dragging around a shell that's way too big.

Here's one of mine, I cant remember how many's in there now. Maybe 10 or so. I had red legged too but I'm sure they've died off a while back.

Yep, mainly blue leggers, but some orange leggers and black leggers (they look like tarantulas, will get the biggest). I couldn't resist and had to buy more yesterday; I'm up to 17. I threw in some shells Ryan found on the beach in the Carribean, and they were a hit! WIDDLE BLUE BUMS NEVER GET OLD!!!! I have one zebra crab, he is my favorite. He changes 8 times a day and keeps going back into the Nassau shell.

I bought a fire eel yesterday for the 75 gal (fresh) - he's about 14'' and BADASS. So basically the whole day yesterday I'd spend an hour watching hermit crabs pick things with their pincers then try to feed the eel by hand. Instead Dip would come up and take the krill out of my hand, in typical "this is MY tank, everything in here is MY FOOD" Dip fashion. I missed two parties yesterday because of goddamn fish.

The protein skimmer is making bubbles suddenly, so Ryan's trying to fix that, all nekkid. I'm typing this while looking at his bum. Just so you can be jealous.

That hermit is fucking CUTE and his widdle shell is GIMPY which means TEH CUTENESS.

Hey, I gots snail eggs already. Do I let them go? Do I scoop them out? Do they mass reproduce like they do in fresh?

Tanks looks splendid! Very nice indeed. Now I hope your braced for the inevitable ALGAE BLOOM!! It's on its way, just let it happen and sit it out.

so algae bloom + nitz spike upcoming, then wait how long after normal levels before buying expensive-azz coral?

Oh man wait a LONG time before buying corals. Get a fish in first and mature the system for a month at least (break through the algae bloom). And then decide whether youre going for a

soft coral tank





or a

hard coral tank



Best not to mix both up as they'll kill each other for growth space. Hard Coral's are expensive to keep as they need exact levels of Calcium at all times, and soak that shit up too. Softies are easier.

Oh and the bubbles are good news, that means the skimmers bedding in.

I WANT A SALT TANK SO BAD THAT I HAVE TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS.
