A while back I built a swfplayer that loaded a swf and played with controls etc.
It just occurred to me that it would probably be easier to just convert a .swf into an .flv, load that and use the buffer and controls that come with an .flv.
Armed with this idea, I tried to export my .swf to an .flv and there is no "FLA" selection in the export list. I did a quick search on google and found a couple third party software packages that claim to be able to do it.
Is it possible? Is it a stupid idea? I know flv was meant to work with video only, but why not convert swfs as well?

you have to use those 3rd party things to do it I believe. Persist got an answer from Adobe on this one in a previous thread -

"why can't we export properly to video?"
drum roll please...
that's not what flash is for, use aftereffects.

you could always export to Quicktime then use the Video Encoder. Keep in mind that there are some restrictions as too what actionscript driven events can be handled.

you can no longer do that.
Apple has removed Flash support from ALL Apple products. Including legacy QT support. Flash's output to QT is 100% borked. Unless you can find an older QT install, and then back pedal all your apps to do the conversion. o.0
Try it.

?
Tried it and it worked as expected.... or parhaps I have overlooked or misread something.
- Multi framed animation (timeline) in CS3
- Export to QT mov. Looks just fine
- Convert to FLV using the CS3 encoder
- Plays back just fine using a desktop player and the FLV playback component.
where should I be expecting things not to work? or... are you talking about a swf as being a media type inside the QT player?
