So I start up my old laptop for the first time in a while. If I go to Start, all the shortcuts above the divider is gone, and my entire Programs folder is empty.
If I go to my Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs that's empty as well, but all the programs is still in the program files folder in explorer.
The only thing that has been installed in the last year has been antivirus definitions.
Any way I can get it back without reformating?

two things.
run chkdsk from the comand prompt with the command
chkdsk /r
and see if that fixes anything.
also, if you have a windows disk, try the repair option.
Beyond that, its fucked.
